Day 1 on Aconcagua

Today we did our first leg from the park entrance to the first camp, Confluencia. It was an easy leg going only 7.5km and up around 500m (to 3420m). In just our day packs, since the mules were carrying the majority of our gear, we completed it in about three hours at a leisurely pace. The weather was very nice: blue skies and maybe in the mid-70’s.

The rest of the day we did what we will be doing a lot of: taking it easy. Acclimatization takes time (a week we learned) so there is no rush. It is more important to go slow and take care of our bodies. We played some poker with a borrowed set of cards and had a good meal of soup, rice, and steak. The camp cook is good.
